About Us
The Seniors Information Directory, the brainchild of Sam Daneliuk Sr. & Samuel Daneliuk Jr., is celebrating it's seventh year of successful operation. Sam Sr. has been involved with seniors in Kamloops, BC for the past 20 years, serving for seven years as president of the Seniors Information, Referral and Resources Society. The Society's large storefront in the Northills Mall has been an active information centre for seniors for seven years. Sam also played a major role in the construction of Desert Gardens, a 54 unit seniors housing facility in downtown Kamloops which includes a 17,000 square foot Seniors Centre.
Sam Sr.'s deep involvement with seniors in the community exposed a real need for a comprehensive one-stop source of information for seniors at large. They both felt strongly that whatever resource they came up with should be provided at no charge to seniors and provide them with valuable information in dealing with issues of importance to them such as healthcare, housing, financial advice, planning for retirement -- as well as keeping connected to their community in a tangible way.
With that criteria in mind, the Kamloops Seniors Information Directory was born in 2003 and was soon followed by sister publications in Salmon Arm, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton. It has been become a most welcome publication by all concerned -- from seniors as end-users to advertisers who recognize the importance and value of welcoming seniors to their businesses -- often with specials seniors' events, days, and discounts. Government agencies, in particular the Interior Health Authority, have also embraced the publication as a powerful tool in providing seniors with information that is most valuable in their day-to-day lives.
Their vision for this publication has always been beyond the borders of the Thompson-Okanagan region of BC. Accordingly, the publication will be extending it's reach into the Kootenays in 2009 with separate editions for the East Kootenays and the West Kootenays and the start of several directories in the Lower Mainland. Our goal is to provide a directory in every city throughout the province of British Columbia.
One of the key sections of the Seniors Information Directory is the chapter on Seniors Housing. Housing for seniors has become more and more of a burning issue in British Columbia, and buoyed by the initial response from advertisers, the Seniors Housing Guide is expected to debut this year in the Thompson-0kanagan. It will provide a comprehensive guide of available housing and related services in this important region of our province. The Lower Mainland has a planned release date of 2010.
We welcome your comments and suggestions as we Proudly Serve Seniors of British Columbia.
